T-Mobile HotSpot has won a highly contested deal to supply nearly all the properties in the national Hyatt Hotels and Resorts chain with Wi-Fi hot spot connectivity.
T-Mobile beat out Wayport for the right to provision 200 of the chain's 208 properties with Wi-Fi, according to several sources. Hyatt was one of the few big-name hotel chains that hadn't yet chosen a hot spot partner, but it reportedly has been waiting for a deal that would make it economically viable to provide Wi-Fi inside rooms.
T-Mobile said it plans to make access available in the lobbies and other public areas of Hyatt hotels, as well as "in select guest rooms," according to a company statement. This deployment already has started; the Hyatt in Charlotte, N.C., was the first property to receive Wi-Fi access last week, both in public areas and in guest rooms. The Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Chicago will follow this week, while Columbus, Ohio; Chesapeake Bay, Md.; and the Grand Hyatt in New York City are set to receive the service in coming weeks, according to T-Mobile.
T-Mobile HotSpot service is now available in more than 4600 locations such as Starbucks, Borders Books & Music, FedEx Kinko's Office and Print Centers, airports and select American Airlines Admirals Clubs, Delta Air Lines Crown Rooms, United Airlines Red Carpet Clubs and US Airways Clubs.
