NEW YORK -- "Tablet Hotels selects only the most unique and extraordinary hotels around the world," explains Laurent Vernhes, co-founder and CEO of Tablet Hotels. "But hotels are constantly either improving or declining. Our customers are our best source of information about the current state of an individual hotel, and also collectively about what matters to them, as guests. This is why we created the Tablet Hotels Meter."
Tablet Hotels (www.tablethotels.com), a web service providing leisure and business travelers truly unique hotel experiences for an outstanding value, announced its new "Tablet Hotels Meter," a function that gives its customers a vote in the selection and rating of hotels, while avoiding the pitfalls common to many websites that feature user reviews. "We have all seen suspect user reviews on other websites--whether flowery ad copy written by unusually enthusiastic customers, or anonymous bitter attacks," said Mr. Vernhes. "Our system eliminates this sort of manipulation, and guarantees the integrity of the ratings."
Here is how the system works: each customer having booked a hotel through TabletHotels.com is invited to rate the hotel via a private email survey sent upon the conclusion of the hotel stay. The customer can submit a rating and comments only for the particular hotel at which he or she has just stayed - thus each hotel can only be rated by customers who have actually stayed at the hotel.
Tablet Hotels' properties are featured by invitation only and cannot pay to be listed. To date, 700 hotels in more than fifty countries have already been selected for inclusion on www.tablethotels.com.
But the fate of each hotel on www.tablethotels.com is now in the hands of the customers. If a hotel's average rating drops below 15 (out of a possible 20), it will be automatically removed from the website. Ratings are collected in a manner that precludes manipulation, whether by the hotels themselves or by "customers" of questionable provenance. Mr. Vernhes added "We value our customers' opinions as highly as our own. In fact, we trust our users so much, we are willing to let them decide which hotels remain Tablet hotels."
The Tablet Hotels Meter may be new, but the data behind it is not--the company has been collecting user feedback surveys for more than two years. Over these years, this system has proven useful in helping Tablet Hotels resolve rare issues between users and properties.
In conclusion, Mr. Vernhes said "Like our users, we realized a long time ago that the old star rating system reflects only pricing and the presence - or not - of amenities - it cannot be relied upon for the overall quality of the experience. Tablet Hotels is building a more reliable reference for the industry and travelers seeking the unique."
