YKIP has documented thousands of children in need of educational scholarships. The “Back to School” fund, established in October 2004, assists impoverished children in Bali with educational costs. By donating US$150/year, sponsors pay school fees, books, uniforms and basic expenses for a primary school student in Bali who would otherwise become a dropout. Secondary school sponsorships are US$250/year.
BHA continues to sponsor needy Balinese tourism university scholars, administering the Annika Linden BHA Scholarship and the BHA Foundation scholarship for the estate of Ketut Tantri. Other recent community efforts included donation of clothing and linens to 13 orphanages in Bali; and collecting more than 3,000 boxes of good and funding 11 tons of food for disaster relief to Indonesia tsunami victims.
During the past year, association membership has grown by 22 percent, reaching 63 star-rated hotel and resort members, according to newly re-elected association chairman Robert Kelsall. BHA last year adopted a proactive approach to destination marketing and statistical research to assist government efforts and promote Bali in strategic markets.
Aggressively tackling issues of importance, such as Visa on Arrival issue and identifying short-comings in airport procedures, BHA has conducted extensive surveys among industry members outside Indonesia and visitors arriving to Bali. Findings have been reported to government agencies and the public. Additionally, BHA has developed a large database of international tourism industry members and media for direct and rapid communication of news and issues important to Bali.
Utilizing its website as a communications and marketing tool, both internally and for the general public, BHA is at the forefront today of non-profit, non-governmental organizations dedicated to tourism in Bali and Indonesia.
